I was just curious, as I'm seeing more and more www.l.google.com?.... referrals in my logs. I was wondering what the significance of the L prior to www is if any.

I have not seen any activity in my logs that shows the letter l in front of google.

I disagree that it has anything to do with Latin America, or any other foreign denomination, since it shows in the browser as plain Google in English.

If you had it in your logs as a referer, it seems logical that a user came from there. Very interesting. Might be a new way for Google to spread user searches around on different data centers?

English is the default language because:

1) Geotargeting your IP
2) Latin America has different languages, Portuguese, Spanish, etc...

The Google domain of Argentine (www.google.com.ar), Brazil (www.google.com.br) and others has CNAME www.l.google.com as DNS alias.

Well, I happen to be physically sitting in a Latin American country, and it comes up as plain Google in English, so I still don't understand your theory.
