Hi folks,

Recently I have been seeing googlebot hammering my google sitemap file 30 to 90 hits a day yet ... not doing much else. Has aonyone else seen anything similar?

bump ... I just cannot believe I am the only webmaster on earth who gets this. Come on, is it just me that google is freaking about with even when I try to help with a sitemap?

Nope, I just noticed it today myself - seemed like it's been coming in every half an hour or so since midnight.

I've been seeing this on and off for a few days now too. I've sent report to the plex but not heard back yet. There was a brief mention of it in the google sitemaps group too.

Simon.

The same here. More than 100 downloads of sitemap xml file that made more than half a giga of data sent per day.

I haven't checked my logs yet - but the Sitemaps Site says they downloaded my sitemap files 1 week ago. Cross checked with a buddy of mine and he has the same situation.

That is the longest time that Google has waited to download my sitemaps. Strange...

Guys

A terrible thing just happened. I had approximately 12,000+ pages indexed on google.

For some crazy reason I decided to try Google sitemap.

A couple of days later the Google sitemap crawled my sitemap and an HTTP error message showed on my Google sitemap account.

When I went to see how many pages were indexed after the Google sitmap crawled my pages went from 12,000+ to 683. WHAT?

I emailed google and told them that I had to remove my sitmap from the Google sitemap account because of the HTTP error messages and the loss of all my pages.

I hope they can help me.

Anbody know what might of happened? Will I get these additional pages back anytime soon? Or do I need to start over?

Sometime around Sept 28th I lost 75% of my keywords and the rest are over page 10. I have had a sitemap for awhile and just verified and found I had html errors, but they were for pages I had dropped from my site long ago, but someone else had picked up the url. I also had two goofy pages in my sitemap.xml file that somehow generated when I created it. I woulndt'think that would cause a problem (and its been like that for several months). Anyone think this sitemap has any thing to do with being dropped?
