Our homepage (url in my profile) dropped out of Google last Wednesday. All other pages on the site are in the index and the homepage still shows Page Rank.

The site has been in it’s current form for several years now and we have never used any dodgy techniques to promote the site.

The only recent change we have made is to change the nonwww url to use 301’s to point to the corresponding pages on the www site. Now, when we do a site:sitename.com in Google all we get is the old nonwww homepage which is being pulled from the supplemental results set. No www homepage at all.

We see Googlebot come by in the sane frequency as it did before, even picking up the homepage, but still the homepage is MIA.We are totally baffled by what is happening as it just does not make sense.

We initially thought it may be that the homepage was not available when Googlebot came to look at it so they dropped it from the index, but now several; days later, and with Googlbot getting a successful hit on the homepage at least once since and we are still not showing in the results.

We then thought maybe internal links point to more than one url which leads to the homepage and thus Google is seeing duplicate pages, but we’ve checked all internal links and they all correctly point to /.

Can a few others have a quick look and see if we are missing anything obvious just in case. We’d also be very grateful for any other suggestions people may have.

The annoying thing is a search for ‘orlando villas’ on Google used to return us as #1 but we are nowhere to be seen. The results of this search show at least 3 sites in the top 10 who clearly use hidden links and hidden text on their homepages – so we get removed from the index and they get to stay – that’s fair – NOT!

We’re still getting lots of traffic from hits to internal pages so our traffic has not dropped that much but it’s the principle of the thing more than anything.

This started happening in the past week or so for some very prominent sites. Seems there must be a back end tangle going on at G! and I would rather wait for them to sort it out than do anything at all in reaction.

I doubt very much that it's anything that you or all these other sites did.

Our homepage re-appeared in the old places over the weekend so it looks like all is as it should be now :-)
