Special characters in Google cache

What's causing them?

I'm looking after a site where Google's cache results are showing unusual characters in the visible page content. E.g.:

"apartments for sale - our aim is to find UK"

Capital As with a circumflex (pointy hat) accent. They always seem to preceed a space.

The Google cache source shows the characters too, but the original page doesn't; just showing a single space.

Any idea what could be the cause of this? Could it be pasting copy from Word? It's being delivered as UTF-8, but the page has a meta specifying a charset of windows-1252. A problem?

I've seen similar cockups in Google's cache in the past, it usualy goes away after a day or two.
