Lost home page

Has anyone ever lost their sites home page from the index?

A site I work on no longer has the default page listed in Google.

link:www.domain.com - shows results
site:www.domain.com - reveals inner pages

However if you type www.domain.com in absolutely nothing is returned.

I'm guessing this is some sort of temporary glitch. Has anyone else had a similar experience recently?
