What does the number of pages indexed by Google mean?

Our site went from 20k to over 70k. Will this result in increased traffic?

In theory yes. If the new pages are being indexed properly (not just the url and/or not 'supplimental results') then as long as there is good spiderable content and good seo you should get these pages appearing in the results and pulling in traffic that you would otherwise have missed. However, getting them to rank well for decent search phrases is another matter...
