Using Trademark symbol (&reg) in Title Tag

Would that count as 1 or 4 characters?

Given the 70 character limit for Title Tags in Google I wanted to know if Google would count the html code &reg as 1 or 4 characters.

Say you had a title like:
Company Name&reg offers Product Name&reg and a wide selection of red widgets
76 characters

Company Name® offers Product Name® and a wide selection of red widgets
70 characters

If Google is counting 4 characters then the indexed title would be:
Company Name&reg offers Product Name&reg and a wide selection of red w

That would cut off the widgets keyword. Despite the obvious of using the company name at the end to avoid keyword truncation I wanted to know if anyone had any insight into the character count. Thanks...

Well....I did a Google search for &reg and came up with some interesting results. It appears Google counts 4 characters rather than one. Here is one result as it appears in Google:

APD Bar Service® (BARTENDINGSERVICE.COM ®)- Providing ...
But this is the actual title:
APD Bar Service® (BARTENDINGSERVICE.COM ®)- Providing bartenders and servers to New England clients for corporate outings, house parties, catered events, weddings and bar mitzvah's

The Google title shows 65 characters however the actual title to with the registered trade mark assembled is 53 characters.

Insofar as special characters are typically not supported in window title bars (at least, I think not) it is reasonable for Google to assume that title characters are simple text only.

Personally, I think Google should filter these titles so that they are displayed in their results as they appear in window title bars.
