I've noticed recently that Googlebot will ask for a page again within a second of getting a 304 Not Modified status for a page it has requested. Has anyone else noticed this and have a theory as to why it is exhibiting this behaviour?
It sorts of defeats doing a conditional GET request in the first place if you are then going to re-request the page anyway.
