I realized sometime ago that my site is affected by the www.example.com and example.com duplicate page issue with many of my site pages listed twice in the index.

Since doing the 301 redirect of example.com to www.example.com I've seen some reduction in duplicates but

site:example.com

still reports almost double my actual number of site pages.

While experimenting with another search I altered my google safesearch setting from "do not filter" to "strict filtering".

A subsequent

site:example.com

now accurately indicated the number of pages on my site AND eliminated pages that had been listed without a summary.

My site contains only family friendly content and therefore i thought it wouldn't be affected by safesearch filter.

Can anyone else replicate this odd Google behavior?

Yes, I can duplicate the issue. When I search without safe search, I get a results of 75,000 pages. When I search with strict filtering on, I get appoximately 43,000 pages.

Not sure what this means.
