Let's say our link appeared on <a famous site>...not as a subject of an article, but as the link from a contributor (each contributor can link his/her name to a website or e-mail address).

If it has a PR of 9, but each day, the stories move off the main page to a page with a PR6. Will the site from the contributor feel any benefit of the PR9, or is one day too short of a time for any positive effects?

Thanks.

PR9 pages that are regularly updated will be visited very often by the search engines. This means that your link will not be in place long enough to gain any real benefit.

The real benefit will come from the PR6 page the link moves to for a longer period. A link from a PR6 page on a PR9 site is a good one to have so I'd be happy with that result (even better if you can get the link text to be your target phrase).

You site will probably walk gingerly for a few days after an experience like that.

Jokes aside...

Is this something you will be able to report back on or are you just asking out of curiosity?

Yeah, the PR6 will be nice, and yes, it is my target phrase. However, the PR9 would've been a HUGE boost! :-)

Well, I am in this situation, but even if my PR does change, I don't know how much would be solely due to this, or due to other sites linking to me as well, so it will be difficult to report back accurately.

I've gotten links from engadget (PR 8) and it's not like it makes an immediate difference other than getting some traffic while the link is on the frontpage, but I'm sure it helps in the long-run. Even if the archives don't have the PR of the frontpage, it's still a link from a PR 8 (or in your case 9) site.

I suppose it may make your site crawled more frequently for that short period of time, as Google is likely to crawl this PR9 page a couple of times a day and might follow your link quickly.
