I’m not getting good ranking for some of my product pages of my gift website. On the other hand, some of my product pages are amongst top of search results in google. How can I improve my rankings for the same?

G PR right now is rather messed up.
[webmasterworld.com...] . I'd wait some time to find out how it will settle before I would try anything.

Google PR is just fine and only has a small impact on your rankings. Try not to focus on it too much.

Here's a great place to start [webmasterworld.com ]. Though the date of the post may seem old, the guide is still very very good and is a great way for anyone to get started.

There are many reasons why some pages will rank well and others won't. Sometimes it has to do with things that are within your control, but more often than not it has to do with the amount of competition you're facing for different searches.

Go through Brett's guide, read through the WebmasterWorld library [webmasterworld.com] and keep working at it. Good luck!

"Google PR is just fine"? Have you read that thread?
[webmasterworld.com...] And no, I don't think it's not "fine" because I LOST PR, I GAINED 3 PR spots on one of my brand new sites with NO IBL's, where it should not have gained anything.

How do you know this? If you are getting your information from the Google toolbar, that’s a very poor source. If you look at the backlink checker, you will see that Google purposely displays disinformation with that functionality. Why then, should we believe the PR display?

In regard to internal pages not ranking well, the first question would be is; do you have any links to those pages? And the second would be is your title correct?

Well, I look at the PR area on the G toolbar, and it coincides with the DC's PR update tool checks. And I DID check backlinks (on Y), there are NONE. As I said, the one-page site was only a few days old and there are NO LINKS to it, since like I said the page was just put up! It was a PR of 0 as it should have been, then it jumped to a PR3 during this new PR update. Whereas my main site's index (9+ years old, hundreds of pages, loads of IBL's, OBL's), dropped from a PR5 where it stayed for years, to the PR of this new webpage. If that sounds "normal" to you then please explain. That's just one example of many, many are seeing the same and similar things.
Thanks.

One factor that is within your control that can have a profound impact is your internal linking architecture.

Tip: karmov and kirby know what they are talking about, it's worth listening.

Do you have a good sitemap? A clear robots.txt allowing G access to those pages and deep links going directly to your internal pages and with a range of different anchor text? Also, bear in mind that whatever credibility Google is giving your site (PR, tPR, or something else) is being split among your different products and you have some control in telling G which ones are more important ) as Kirby pointed out.

Here is another thread you might benefit from reading.

How to do Long Tail SEO [webmasterworld.com]

Getting traffic sent directly to interior pages by the search engines can really boost your site. The best part is that it's a lot easier to do than getting the same amount of traffic coming in through a home page.

I understand, however someone asked a question of ME and I answered it. I suggest you direct your comment to them. Oh boy, I apologize! I've been so hung up on the PR update thread that I saw "Rank" in the subject and erroneously thought "PAGE rank"! Sorry guys.
