Wowow... Google Directory without PageRank in Alpha mode?

Hi All,

While I was searching for several random keywords on Google and reading posts in this forum, I stopped on something very strange that didn't know it existed:

Example:
[directory.google.com...]

ALL the categories of Google Directory have an new version in alpha test mode (I guess) that do NOT display the PageRank as they used to.

I smell that Google is testing something big out there... I really cannot imagine that Google is removing the PR measurement/importance from its algorithm but is there a chance that Google decided to keep it as a secret from the public - all of us?

I think it would be very interesting to have Brett or another moderator to post their comments on this observation...

Is Google thinking to give an end in public Pagerank?

PS. I don't think that PR will ever be abandoned by Google for site measurement; that's why I am speaking for an end in public.

Click the 'Sort by pagerank' to see the page rank listing (the alpha ones are sorted alphabetically).

This is normal functionality.

As far as I can remember Google Director when viewed in Alphabetic Order never showed any PR. And the Alpha stands for Alphabetic and not "Alpha Test". So this might be a false alarm?

Is that new or not? - I deffo cant remember seeing it before.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I didn't notice it was the alphabetical listing; never saw it before. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

No, the alphabetical mode in the Google Directory is something that has been around for a while.

The oldest thread here that I can find that mentions it, after a quick search, was in March 2003.

bether2, i still see Directory being sorted on PageRank by default. I do not think this might be different for you?

Yeah, I was going from the link given above. After checking some more, I realized that everything is working as normal and removed my post with the incorrect info.
