Keyword vs. Keyphrase

Keyphrase penalty?

I am trying to figure this one out: I have a site, and I want it to rank for a competitive two word keyphrase ("Blue Widgets"). If I try to do a search for any of the two words alone ("blue", "widgets"), then I find the site ranked at #3 / #4. If I search for both words together, the site ranks somewhere at #300.

What can be the cause of such phenomenon? I always thought that single words should be harder to rank for… Is it a penalty that was placed on this specific keyphrase?

say i have website called webworld

if i search for webworld(no1)
web world(page 5 or 6)

how can i better my search engine position and get included in matches for web world
