An article on Google earnings in the Wall Street Journal today says that, in March, Google handled 36% of U.S. search queries and Yahoo handled 31%, according to comScore Networks. I can’t find how comScore is calculating these numbers, but they don’t seem right to me. My experience is showing that Google is referring from 60-80% of the visits on the vast majority of sites we work with. Seldom, though occasionally, Google referrals are equal to or close to Yahoo.
I know that “referrers” isn’t the same as “queries,” but does anyone agree with the comScore numbers or have an explanation as to how they are reached?
