Is this the quickest index?

I nearly fell of my seat this morning.

I submitted a new domain to Google last night and this morning (about 6 hours later) the #*$!x.co.uk page is listed!

Is this the quickest?

i think the indexing of urs site MIGHT not becoz of url submission but due to some of back links. those links might got indexed so urs link also got indexed.

There is no link to the new domain at all.

Had the same thing with a site I am still working on -an island in the middle of nowhere. All of a sudden gbot and slurp show up.

Only thing I can figure is toolbar or whois.

It's possible you hit the timing just right...when Google was actually throwing "some" new content into the mix and your submission came in at that moment...chances are very good it won't stick...several hours...maybe several days...if longer .. congrats...

Reminds me of the good old days...I have been doing webmaster/seo/sem/web dev since 1997...and with AltaVista (which at the time was king)....we would watch for the spider crawls and then slam the index with tons of newly developed targeted pages...and they always made it in and within 24 hours our pages were raking in the top 10 and driving in customers...what a blast that was...

Rootpages have never taken longer then about 2-4 hours from me after I link to them. The problem is to keep the rankings and to get lots of additional pages indexed.

Maybe they can index old pages! Had a phone call from a guy that wanted to buy something that was discontinued and taken off the website four months ago. Still had some old snippets. And yes our site gets indexed on a regular basis--the link he found us is on every page.
