I have a web hosting directory which will soon be fully completed and i have been playing with the idea of having it translated in several languages and going international. This makes sense because my hosting directory will serve up search results for hosts worldwide.

The dilemma i have is - how is the best way to do that?

For example i get most of my traffic from google.com which is my largest user base, however i would like to also get a good amount of traffic from google.co.uk but although it seems i am in that index, all of my search terms seem to be completely off the index ( by selecting uk only in search results ).

I have read that getting a .co.uk would help and hosting it in the uk, however if i do that i, would i be risking duplicate content? Obviously translating the site into french for example would rule out duplicate content but the uk and usa both use english, so the site would be the same.

I'd like any information that may help me decide what to do and if this is worth actually doing. This is something i would defintely like to do in google but also in other search engines like yahoo and msn.

The uk has a population of around 70 million so its sad to miss out on the extra traffic it might create.

Any help really appreciated on this one, thanks.
