When a Web Site’s Home Page is Missing?

site:www.example.com example - only the home page is missing.

My site’s homepage seems to have been penalized and removed from Google. When I use the above command, google shows most of the pages of the site in its SERPS, however the homepage is missing.

The PR is still the same of all the pages. The site is not in the SERPS if the domain name is run as a search term and it’s not in the SERPS for any of its keywords.

What has led to this penalty? A few weeks back one of my other sites also underwent the same phenomenon and it never came back.

Has anyone else also encountered the same? And did the site ever come back in the SERPS?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

I've seen this happen to a site of mine on a couple datacenters. It is rather strange. From what I have seen, yes they do come back. If you are still showing PR on the home page, I think there's a good channce of coming back.

Have you tried it again and looked carefully?

I thought I had the same thing, ran the command again and it was, albeit nice and deep in the results but there.

Hope it is for you sooner rather than later.

Cheers

You might wish to check the following:

- When you run the command site:www.yoursite.com , you don´t see any "strange" url redirecting to your homepage.

- You have the correct metatag:
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="INDEX, FOLLOW">

- Most of other pages of your site are already linked to your homepage and Vice Versa.
