Redirect in JavaScript

How it impacts in Google

Hi all,

I read several posts telling that Google is pulling .js files and JS code inside pages.

I have this scenario:
In one of our sites, we have a home page for registered users (we check cookies to know that) and other for 1st time users (users without the cookie).
Based on that cookie, we redirect them with JavaScript to one page or another...

So, the BIG question here is: how could this be interpreted by Google? Can Google read the code and "know" that is has a redirect? Iīm going to be penalized?

how is the structure?
- 1 page that redirects to one or another?
or
- one page that tests the cookie and if certain condition is given you redirect to another page (and if not, it shows that default page that has de JS)?

At the moment you should be OK with javascript redirect. You can also hide / cloak pages and boost your ranking without getting into trouble with google/yahoo/msn. I even have working example (wwwDOTprokmuDOTcom). This site auto-generated ~50000 pages and all pages are hidden with javascript which sends redirect code. If you switch javascript support in mozilla you will see what i am talking about :)

We have the 2nd scenario you listed. If the condition is false (no cookie value), we show a default page (with no customization to the user)
