Scraper Sites

Here is a theory:

- If you ranked high on a key, you were probably included in 100's of scraper/snippet sites.

- These scraper sites were indexed by Google.

- Google now thinks that all of these sites link to you.

- Should not be a problem. However, there has been discussion that adding to many links in a given month could cause a penalty. It would not be natural growth.

- Here is a good question - Most of the scraper/snippet sites have Adsense Ads. Why is Google Adsense allowing these sites to multiply like rabbits? I thought the purpose of Adsense was to have quality sites in the program?

Just my thoughts.

I don't think that this is likely to be a problem. After all, if there's a new cultural phenomenon then Google users will expect to find it.

More likely in my opinion, is that people have had benefit from directory/PPC driven sites carrying the same content. As Google get better at identifying near duplicate content, people should expect to lose some of the benefit they've been getting.

That's a topic for another forum.
