I don't think that there is anything you can do to incite Google to index your images. Furthermore, the Google image database is seldomly updated. It is my experience that it can take a long time before the images from a new site get indexed, and one year or more is unfortunately not unusual. Just watch your logs for the Googleimage bot. Once you see it, you'll be in at the next update.

Hi,

My experience is that new/updated text pages get into Google in a few days, but images take many (six or more) months.

uhm... don't count on getting images indexed just cuz the image bot comes around. He comes to my site every other month or so, grabs hundreds of images, some he's already grabbed and some not.

But, he NEVER indexes any of them.

I'm not too worried 'bout that because it just makes it easier for people to copy/hotlink to them, but I wish if G was going to crawl all these images they would at least index a few of them ;)

BTW, they all have alt text and some even have the title tag as well. Site is old, too, been around since '98 and ranked very well.

I have the reverse problem: I get a lot of garbage requests from Google Images, and people stealing images to use as icons, etc.

But Googlebot Image is very rarely coming by. If I ban Googlebot Image in my robots.txt, does anyone know how long it will take before the images fade out of the catalog?

Are there any other imagebots I should worry about?
