Hi Webmaster World,
From time to time, I come across sites that exhibit a strong Link Popularity, but stuggle w/ Google PageRank. Sometimes lower level pages of the site will yield a PageRank score, but other times not.
Take for example, Amazon, who's long query strings are certainly not the most spider friendly. Also, it appears there may be session IDs in the URL structure, which is problematic. (Perhaps am I asking a rhetorical question?)
Amazon scores a 0/10 PageRank as of 2/10/05. However, the site has over 7.6 Million pages indexed on Google and has over 12 Million referring Links across 6 engines.
What gives, then with the 0/10 PageRank for this or other less prominent sites that do not seem to justify this score?
This old Webmaster post showed some information and a previous score of 3/10 as well as a 9/10 as of 2001, but didn't have a clear answer. [webmasterworld.com...]
