If you made changes since the last deep crawl on your site by Google, I believe you'll have to wait for the update that happens at the end of March update to see any permanent changes in your serps ranking.
The update that folks are waiting for right now (should happen any day) will be based on the deep crawl that happened the first part of February. Of curse, if you got the changes in before the last deepcrawl, you might see the changes with the imminent update.
The indexing you mention is now present could be the result of the freshbot finding your changes to your page. This is not the same as the regular deep crawl, and any ranking changes due to the freshbot may or may not be the same as the changes from the regular deepcrawl/update.
Second, Google changed their algo late last year to reduce the importance of PageRank, resulting in the type of situation you described. Check your on-page ranking criteria. In particular, take a good look at your TITLE tag, and make sure that your new search phrase is included in it, preferably at the start of the title.
