I'm interested in having multiple domains on a virtual hosting program with the only real difference in content being the actual location ( boston, ny, etc.) of the product. The plan is to have a central site which would link to each: www.widgets.com --- www.bostonwidgets.com - www.newyorkwidgets.com - etc.
My question is if search engines might frown on this, especially in virtual hosting environment? (If so, would separate IPs help?) I would prefer to have these individual addresses link up centrally (versus subdomains) however I'm a little concerned about previous crosslinking issues discussed in the forum.
Also along these same lines, would there be a problem with targeting unique keyword strings within each location?
For instance: www.widgets.com ---- www.nywidgets.com - www.nycwidgets.com - www.newyorkwidgets.com
Thank you in advance for any insight,
Billy
There would be little advantage to increasing your rankings by having only a few words different in each domain i.e, Boston, NY etc, with all the rest copy and pasted in each domain.
Unique content is the only way to go.
As far as the ip situation....I've never encountered a problem with virtual hosting as long as I wasn't linking excessively.
