I live in canada....and I want to buy a .fr domain? I am in the middle of completing the transaction however it says that I must be a registered business in france. Should I ignore this? Will I get sued if I still register the domain? - Newbie

If it says you must have a business registered in France, then I'd suggest abiding by those terms. They are there for a reason.

I am really tempted to see what will happen. This domain I want to buy has a ton of links in google. Should I just register? Anyone done this before?

Hi thsung, noone here will give any advice as to how to circumvent the regulations. What I do advice instead is using a registrar allowing you to legally register french domains.
You might want take a look at this thread:

There are registrars who will act as trustee for you.

Ah, an envelope pusher. Ok, let's see...

Suppose you were able to register it.

Suppose furthur that you got lots and lots of value from those juicy links you mentioned when, suddenly you were taken to task and lost everything and maybe even facing a major law suit.

Then, ask yourself: What would you have gained?

Sure, anytime the sign says: "Do not enter" you can very well enter....as long as you're willing to take the risks and abide by whatever sanctions may come your way as a result of your envelope pushing.

Actually, there are French laws at play. It's not so easy to register. You could easily end up paying the registrar and receiving nothing, as your paperwork is not in order. And the fine print with many of these registrars, as far as getting your money back for this type of reason goes something like this: "Tick-tack. No backs!"
