What happens if the whois report doesn't list the domain name server... is there a site out there that never misses or am i just an idiot?

thanks

Go to a Unix prompt and type: dig ns domainname.com
or if no prompt is around try this for (com, net, org) domains:
verisign-grs.com/cgi-bin/whois

It is also possible that a domain doesn't have a NS, but technically they all should.

I've seen a few domains in .info that had no nameservers listed in the whois record. However one of them recently had nameservers added. One of them was iedr.info and the other is iedomainregistry.info. The IEDR is actually the Irish cctld domain registry and the registrations of these two domains is questionable as they were registered by an Irish company other than IEDR. With the latter, a dig or host -tns will result in a 'domain not found' error.
