I just tried to register a one word .tv name. The registra says because it is one word it is classed as a 'premium' name - which means $250 per year :(
Is it just that registra or is it possible to register one word .tv names for a better price.

I'm afraid it's so. I think you can do better on the price for "premium domains" however. Search around for a better deal.

Registrars have no say in the cost of a "premium" .tv domains. The prices are fixed by the .tv registry and the domains are maintained by the Registry not the actual registrar the domain is purchased through. The registrar get a kick back for the actual referral though.

Anyone know of a registra offering significantly less than $250 for premium .tv names?
Sticky my if the info can't be posted. I've got to sort this out.

WHY do you want the .tv that much? When it comes to these minor TLDs, personally I'd say the are all interchangeable. Thus, I see no advantage to widgets.tv over widgets.ws, widgets.cc or any widgets.TLD. Thus, I'd suggest trying to find the cheapest TLD you can find for the desired name.
