is .net bad?

Does it hurt SE rankings?

I have a new site coming online with a .net extension. Am I shooting myself in the foot? I've seen some comments in various posts that people suspect it hurts se rankings. Is this certain?

No .net does not really have any effect on SE rankings. You may find people are use to .com and may have a type in problem, but I have had no problems with my .net names.

I noticed on Brett's comments at [searchengineworld.com ] (in the 9-9-1999 update) that he moved a domain to a .com partly due to negative .net results. Have times changed?

Yes they have. Algorythms are based more on content these days.

The only downside is that a popular .net name is going to boost the value/popularity of the similar .com. It's good to have both if you can.

.Net will not adversely affect rankings by any means.
