Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows any issues that would negatively affect a site's position by changing hosting - (as the ip address might change).

I am looking at changing my hosting and I'm hoping that it will not affect any search engine positioning.

Any thoughts will help. Thanks.

Hi, welcome to Webmasterworld.
A site search (link above) for "host change" or such will give you some past discussions. Generally should not be a problem, although you may see a dip for a bit.

Keep both accounts active for a month or two. This will insure the new dns has been picked up. When you are certain the new dns info has been picked up then cancel the old account.

If you plan the hosting swap right, I don't see any problems. I would recommend swapping hosts mid month. At least thats what I would do. The SE's seem to be playing less games midmonth, at least that is my view. Although, you should be able to experience no downtime if you do the swap right.

Just keep your current hosting account active, create the new hosting account, with the new company. And then change the IP's over to your new host in the domain management utilities. When you see the DNS servers have updated to the new host/server. I would then wait a day (grace period) and then cancel your first hosting plan, and then you should be all set with your new host, with no downtime and no SE problems.
