..But do they want to sell it?

There is a really nice domain name Ultimate Search currently owns that I would love to grab. Has anyone ever bought one from these guys? I've e-mailed them asking if it's for sale but heard nothing back. If you've managed to get one from them - what do they normally charge?

It's such a good domain name to waste! ;)

I was in a similar position last year with a domain name that a client had asked me to secure.

I emailed them with an overgenerous amount that the client had instructed me to offer and they never even bothered to reply.

Seems a funny way to run a business!

What's up with those guys, anyway? Do they ever get nailed for duplicate content?

Very good point on the duplicate content. They have tens of thousands of clone pay for click search engines and they are all the same.

I think though that they rely on most of their traffic from type-ins.

I'm sure they don't get that much search traffic, but last time I stumbled across a few of their domains they actually had OK PageRank. Perhaps they were recent acquisitions and hadn't been ferreted out yet.

It's very frustrating! Although, of course, they have every right to do this you would think for say $500 a domain they would make more money by selling the domains to people who want them!

Blimey, those clever sausages in Hong Kong and Korea are quick at grabbing deleted domains....

Ultimate Search are the Daddy of this type of activity.

Very shrewd businessmen, and have been taken to court on a number of times, but I think they have won most of the diputes.

As far as I know they have never lost. I have a call in through one of their lawyers trying to obtain a domain from them for a friend. I still haven't heard anything and it has been a few weeks.

I believe they are in Hong Kong.

They had a domain name very similar to one of our own (i.e. a plural of our own), but were not interested in selling.

We recently wanted a domain that was just expiring, and the former owner had wanted several thousand dollars for a couple of years ago, and they got it first. It had a PR of 6, but now it has a PR of 0.

They probably have some good tools, and a large budget, to basically buy anything. But I bet they are banned by Google, because they just show a junk page of paid links.

How do you find out how many domains are on a particular IP address?

For what it's worth, I've purchased a domain from them and it went very smoothly. The whole process was handled through a third-party escrow company and was wrapped up in a couple of days.

Brett: That's a whole heap of domains!

WebGuerrilla: Did you contact them directly about a domain or did they sell it via Ebay?

And, if you don't mind me asking, are they quite sensible with their sale prices? Last time I contacted a Hong Kong company about a domain they wanted $5,000 (which was waaaayyy too much!)
