.info vs .net, etc

Should I go with .info?

Hello all, let me just say this forum is very helpful to an aspiring "webmaster" like me. I am thinking buying a few new domain names. Unfortunately the .com is taken. Just wondering what my next best option would be in the eyes of the SE's (especially google) It seems I see quite a few .info names ranking high on Yahoo and google so it dosent seem a problem. Also the .info fits my keyword-laden-domain-name as it is an informational site [with a few affiliate links =)] so I would like to go with that. Any input on .info domain names and SE rankings is appreciated.

TLDs are not so much a consideration of ranking - ses simply don't care.
Only exception are ccTLDs where inclusion/exclusion varies from country to country.

The decision for a TLD should be made with an eye on your target group.
If it's business a .com very likely is first choice, no matter what. For US a .us might be a future option.

If it's a hit and run site, a doorway site, something you do not build to last, a .info is no problem.

If it "fits" as you say go for it..

.Info, .Biz, .US opens up some possiblities long gone in the .com world..

You can use any .whatever...it makes no difference. Please be considerate of the .orgs if you can.

The reason you see so many .infos is because for a long time the Google toolbar didnt snitch on the backwards links so a lot of pros were using them.

I suggest either a .net or a country code. Brandability on .infos and .bizs are not so great yet. IMO I think .nets are going to be really big. I would tell you .net but thats just me.

As far SE ranking is concerned, tld dosent matter. I have got a .info with good ranking in Google.

I think it depends on what you want to use the site for.

Brandability on .infos and .bizs are not so great yet.

Bingo. So if I were doing any branding offline or listing the site ANYWHERE that didn't have a hypertext link attached, I would stick with .org or .net. People recognize these and are used to both hearing them and typing them in.

A .biz or .info might steer them wrong.

I also, for some reason, have trouble with .info because it's more than three letters. It just looks wrong!

Oh, and if you're talking about your username (your second post), that'd be Goonies.

Heh, yes "The Goonies" is correct!
