Normally I can view source of e-mail and do a Whois and find out what state they are in. With this AOL e-mail I have no successm becuase I just have IP for AOL. Is there any way around this?

None at all because all aol traffic starts at aol.

Usually in Outlook you can open the e-mail, view options, and then you'll see the Internet headers. In there you'll find the IP address of the sender, just cut and paste it into Whois report and most of the time you will see what state they are in.

Certain IPs inside AOL are reserved for each country/state. The exact mapping is a goldmine. This is one of the puzzles I have wanted to solve for a long time. There are a few companies out there that made deals with AOL and now they license this information. But I don't feel like paying for that info. It would be nice if we could cooridate what IPs map where.
