I found a domain that was deleted (not on hold) on 6-26-02. It is a dot com domain.

The problem is that no registrar will let me register it because the say it is "taken". Only one domain will let me register it and it is godaddy. Verisign says its available but when you go to register it, it says its taken?!?

Whois provides the following information. (example: mydomain.com)

07/14/02 14:11:15 whois www.mydomain.com
.com is a domain of USA & International Commercial
Searches for .com can be run at [crsnic.net...]

whois -h whois.crsnic.net mydomain.com ...

Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to [internic.net...]
for detailed information.

No match for "MYDOMAIN.COM".

>>> Last update of whois database: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 04:53:06 EDT <<<

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

Also, there are no nameservers associated with the domain.

What do you think the situation is here? I have not encounter this before.

Thanks!

I just did a check on the domain at internic.net and they said the following:
----------
Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to [internic.net...]
for detailed information.

------------

What gives?

No match for domain "MYDOMAIN.COM".

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

GoDaddy is horrible when it comes to knowing about new domains, I think they cache the status for 24 hours. I tried to register a domain with them last week and they told me it was not available. But Dotster, eNom, and NetSol said it was available.

The whois you see from whois.crsnic.net is about 24 hours old. So it may be registered in the SRS. I know eNom uses the SRS to check domain status at the Registry level.

Give it 24 hours and when you look back on it you will most likely see someone registered hours or minutes before you did.

Thanks for the reply Lisa. The problem is that I have been trying to register since June and it still says there is no match in the whois, nameserver, or website. Very strange. Seems like something in wrong.

I just check Verisign again today and this is what I get...

I just checked with enom.com whois and it says "Domain name not found". I will check later this week as well.

Just stopping by to give an update about this domain.

As of today, July 25, 2002, this domain is still unavailable to register.

There is no active website, DNS, or whois information available. It looks like it is in limbo.

The domain has expired and the last update for it was:
Registrar of Record: TUCOWS, INC.
Record last updated on 28-Jan-2002.

Can't figure this one out. However, I used Snapnames in case if ever comes back to life.

It looks like you have to wait or start contacting tucows. That is the only options I can see.
