My feeling is this has nothing to do with ICANN, with domain name disputes or anything such as this. It's really simple: "he who controls commuications controls the world". ICANN controls the root servers. Need anything more be said.

ICANN controls the root servers.
But NetSol operates them for ICANN under a contract.

So who is really in control?

For some reason I have this feeling that NetSol secretly runs ICANN.

It bugs me that so much control of the "world" wide web is in a country half-way around the planet from where I live.

just 3 out of 13 root servers are not hosted in the us:

i.root-servers.net / i.gtld-servers.net
in Stockholm, Sweden run by NORDU Net (www.NORDU.net),

k.root- servers.net / k.gtld- servers.net
in London, UK run by the Réseaux IP Européens Network
Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) (www.RIPE.net) and

m.root- servers.net
in Tokyo, Japan run by the Widely Integrated Distributed
Environment Project (WIDE Project) (www.WIDE.ad.jp).

So as there are root servers in 4 different countries, does that mean effective legislation is impossible?

(I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here: I want effective legislation, and I also want conrol shared globally)

ICANN released its "Blueprint" summary of recommendations for reform over the weekend immediately prior to the organization's meetings in Bucharest, Romania.
