Are there good services or not?

A client owns a mature website domain name and wants to sell it. I have only registered domains and have never tried to sell mine or anyone elses. I've seen services offered through 3rd party services. Since I have no experience using them, I want to know:
1 - Does anyone actually buy/sell through these services?
2 - Are there any other suggested techniques or avenues that the client can sell the domain?
3 - What is domain buying market like these days? I do not see reports or articles about domain trading or purchases like we did a short 24 months ago. It gives me the impression that there isn't much activity in domain purchasing. Would this be a correct assumption?

I think that if the overall impression is that the demand for domain names is down, the client should be informed so he won't expect much if anything to come out of this. If my feeling about this type of market is wrong, I need to know that too. If any specific companies are mentioned, I'd prefer to have that on sticky. Thanks.

I sold a website (domain name, code, userbase, and all) on ebay and was pleasantly surprised at the result. I received many times what I expected to and was able to quit my real job as a result.
I will recommend that you set a quite high reserve price. If you don't sell it you may actually end up being approached afterwards by organizations that want to buy it, but just not through ebay. That happened to me.
Good luck!

1 - Ebay, Afternic, GreatDomains, and Yahoo are the indusdry standard sites to sell domains on.

2 - There are also a few niche sites that specialize in selling whole companies. But I would bet on the big guys and all their eyes. Try a search engine like Google if you want to find those companies or perhpas DMOZ has a listing of it.

3 - ouch, The market is tight right now. I would set his hopes low. Perhaps wait 2 years and sell in better times. I would say 1/3 the price I used to get in now common.

Thanks for the input. I think it would be prudent to take the advice of toning down his expectations and perhaps suggesting that he consider holding on to it for a period of time to see if the wind changes. I'll check out suggested selling sites for future reference.
