Message Too Old, No Replies

I purchased this domain recently and am wondering if it has value.

Hi there,

I'm one of those people who thinks that domain squatting is really obnoxious. However, I discovered that the911memorial was available and didn't really feel like it would be wrong to purchase it in the hopes that someone with the time and inclination to do something with it would be interested in purchasing it from me. Alternatively, I figured that there might be speculators out there who would be willing to buy it from me for a few hundred dollars in the hopes of selling it to a bigger, richer organization sometime before the 1 year anniversary of the event for big $$.

I had it appraised by a domain name appraiser who came back with $9500!! I realize that this figure it probably far too high, but do you guys think that it might at least be worth a couple thousand dollars?

It's currently listed on ebay without any bids.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it, I wouldn't trust an appraiser's bid. Their may be someone out there who would want it but the majority frowns on making money off 9/11 so that probably narrows the purchaser field quite a bit.

At least 2 Moderators here have had sites "like that" for months. It is a bit late to get in that business - imo

btw - traffic is very nice

Why not donate to a non-profit agency who will put it to good and noble use. May even get a tax credit for it (who knows).

Somehow, profiteering off a domain like that really rubs me the wrong way... and I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment. Anyone willing to pay $$$ for that name is most likely someone out to do some profiteering, and probably shouldn't have the domain sold to them in the first place.

I wouldn't trust a domain appraisal at all... With antiques or art, etc., there's an established market that has demonstrated over time what it will and will not pay for general types/styles of items, therefore making a worthwhile "appraisal" possible.

Nobody collects domain names just for the sake of having a collection of them, and what market there is hasn't been around for very long either... leading me to think anyone claiming to appraise domain names has a lot more in common with certain purveyors of URGENT BUSINESS OFFERs by email than anyone offering honest appraisals on physical goods.

I'd drop the reserve to $1 although I doubt it is worth even that.

the simple fact that it was still unregistered until now should be a pretty good clue about it's value.

fact is it's of interest to two lots of people

one lot want to use it as a hook to hang a charity web site on...they are going to be upset at the idea of somebody profiteering from tragedy and will be unlikely to pay very much

the other lot think they might be able to make a profit from it...they are liable to be fairly greedy...so they won't pay very much either

i'd pay (probably a lot) for 11.org and would add a subdomain to make it 9.11.org, then i would make it a non-profit USEFUL site that could help a good cause. anything else is (imho) a waste of time, money, and morally challengeable.

there are SO MANY other domains that are good investment and do not build cash on people's deads, why even think of something like that...?

want to do $$$ fast? try porn instead ;)
