SnapNames Alternative

Any way to beat snapnames to a domain?

Ok, there are a couple of domain names that I want to register myself that should expire within the next couple days. They are in the "Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB. Local whois DB must be out of date." state which means they will expire within the next 6 days. But unluckily, they are already back ordered in snapnames.

Has anyone had any luck beating snapnames? If they are set up to just fire off a bunch of registration requests right after the names are dropped every day, then given the quantity of domains they deal with, wouldn't this give a smaller player a chance?

I'm looking at NameWinner, a service by dotster:
[namewinner.com...]
It looks like they might be a competitor, but I don't know who would win in a competition.

Has anyone tried writing their own registration script to grab these things?

I can't answer the question, but your post did bring up a question for me. I have a domain on snap-back and I just got an email yesterday informing me of a registration change.

'Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB...' - Now pointing back at Network Solutions. Does this mean I could get it in five days?

yeah bobbriggs, that is usually what it means. You may want to keep checking manually if you really want the domain and try to grab it manually.

Results are in. Informed by email this morning. The domain is mine now.

Hunter, I checked it manually 2 or 3 times during this period. The automated email came in last night at 11:42 CST. I was fast asleep.

This is the first time I've tried the service. For 50 bucks, I think it's a pretty good deal. (Well, Yeah, I did get the domaian!) You can switch the domain during the year's period, and probably have it check 4 domains that are expiring, until you get one or you lose the money. Pretty cheap. Couldn't hire anyone to do it.

Yep, I just 'snapped' two domains last night as well, each with over 500 links on msn's link pop search.

Has anyone "snapped" a name that was registered through Netsol? I have been waiting for a name that expired 4 months ago, but the website is still active.

I do have the name back ordered through Snap Names, but just wondered what my chances are of successfully registering it. Any input would be helpful.

There seems to be a concensus that names registered with Netsol can take a loooong time to be deleted and therefor available. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with how quickly a Register.com name is deleted if the owner does not renew.

I am bighting my fingernails on one domain and need to know whether it will get to the surgery point of not. :)

Has anyone tried domainmart.com's Secure if Expired service? It cost only $39, but is it as effective as Snap Names?

netsol snap back sure is slow - it's already expired - 3months now & snap back still haven't got it yet - still waiting.

What you are really waiting for is it to go off of the hold state. Last time I played this game, snapnames had it registered within minutes of it leaving the hold state.

How will I know when the domain is not longer on hold?

It's off hold when it no longer appears in the WHOIS database at all.

I waited for about a month for a domain that was on hold at Register.com. I eventually got in touch with their on hold domain department, and I registered directly through them. I don't think the domain was ever available to the public.
