What is it worth?

Curious about the value of one of my domains

Hi all,

I realize I'm not allowed to name the domain I own in these forums, but it's a Canadian domain of a major Canadian city with province code at the end. How much might this be worth? It's a booming city right now, and I would love to sell this domain to someone who can make use of it. (And hopefully I can make a profit too!)

Thanks,
Christina

Hello happyslob and welcome to the Domain Forum.

To get a better idea about placing a value on your domain I'd suggest that you start by taking a look here: [webmasterworld.com...]

I can tell you that appraisals in domain forums are all over the place, making them about as reliable as the 365 day local weather forecast.

You might begin to get an idea of how some people value domain names by parking the domain with a PPC provider and seeing what type of revenue it throws off. Frankly, I think you would be better off if you began to develop it.

As of this time we don't do domain name evaluations and, if we ever get around to testing those waters it's likely to take place in the format of a 1x/month "domain clinic". We're not there yet so don't hold your breath. :)

If you haven't already done to please take a moment to fully read the Domain Forum's
Charter [webmasterworld.com].

It depends on how big the city is?
How much traffic does the name get?

In general since its .CA name,i would say $10k+

It also depends on how much you have spent marketing the domain, how many inbound links exist online, and how aware locals are of the site.

Thanks you guys, for your opinions.

So far the site gets some decent traffic just in type-in traffic. I haven't marketed the site at all, and it isn't developed.

The city is a major city of 1 million people and is currently booming like CRAZY in real estate.

I would love to sell this domain to someone who would be willing to pay a reasonable price. Where are the best places to sell domains?

Thanks!
Christina

Take a read of this thread, in the Domain Forum Library, regarding selling domain names:

...but it's a Canadian domain of a major Canadian city with province code at the end...

The fact it has a province code at the end would make it significantly less valuable.

For example, Calgary.com may be worth say $600,000. Calgary.ca an estimated $60,000., However, CalgaryAB.ca (AB=Alberta), or CalgaryAB.com perhaps only $600., a huge difference.

It really depends a lot on where your main business is coming from. You can be in Canada, but service US visitors more than others. If however you service primarily Canadians, the value of your .ca increases. Just my 2 cents.
