How to list just an organization in my whois info

and not any person's first and last name

This feels like a stupid question, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I have a domain with godaddy that was registered in a person's name. That name is what shows up in all of the whois info. I want to remove that name and replace it with the name of an organization instead. I don't want any person's name to show up in the whois info, I only want the name of the organization to show up.

Instead of:

Administrative Contact: Smith, John

I want:

Administrative Contact: Super Widget Factory

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks in advance.

It's possible that such a change would be considered tantamount to a "change of registrant", invoking certain requirements - such as a new account, a renewal fee, etc.

If it's simply a matter of "you" and an alter ego or d/b/a (you 'doing business as' XYZ) then it should only be considered a change of business name, not a change of registrant, since ownership is with the same person.

Of course, as part of the process, certain safeguards would have to attach - to be certain the change is being effected by the actual registrant - so you may have a small hoop to jump through to prove identity and ownership. Might have to fax some form of confirmation, etc.

Webwork, thanks for the reply. It's actually my own domain and always has been. All whois info currently contains my first and last name. All I'm looking to do is use my company name instead. The address/phone number/email is all exactly the same and would not need to change.

Is this still as complicated as you described?

Thanks again.

It depends on your registrar. With mine, it looks like I can go online and make any changes in real-time.

Yup, ask your registrar first. Many do any and all domain record changes online at no add'l cost. ;)

I emailed godaddy and asked them, and they said I can easily put my organization as the registrant (which I've already done), but I'd still need to have an actual person as the contact.

This of course is the opposite of what I want to do, which is put my organization as the contact rather than a person.

The registrant can be a Company only rather than a person.

The admin, billing, technical contacts need to be a person.

So why not just some like

Domain Manager
Company xyz
some town
A country
domain.manager@company.xyz
