using free as part of a domain name

is there any negative results from having free in your domain name?

I am going to register a new domain name (we'll call it #*$!xx) and don't know if I should register xxxxx.net (xxxxx.com is already taken) or free-xxxxx.com. What do you think?

My website is going to offer somthing that is free, but will spam blockers block the e-mails that I send out to my list? I know some block free if it is in the subject or the body, but what about address? I'd love to hear some opinions.

"FreeWidgets.com" can be pretty popular, so long as it's what people expect - foolishly or otherwise - to find (at least some amount of) free on the web.

I can't speak to all the email filters that block "free" but I'll bet it's a pretty good hunch.

People looking for things that are "free" are not good candidates to sell things to. And then also, if the domain includes "free" and there are things being sold, credibility could come into question, since it could be seen as quaisi-deceptive. Aside from spam issues, I wouldn't do it unless everything is really free, or if it's very clear that there actually is something of value for free, but that there is also paid product.

I can say from experience that a site visited as "free" is unlikely to make substantial revenue, if any at all.
