It seems that folks have gotten confused with the .eu domain requests.
For those who are confused the .eu so called Sunrise one started 7thDec.2005 at 11.00am then Sunrise two started at 11.00am 7thFeb and ran until 6thApril 2006.
Anybody wishing to request registration had five months to do this BEFORE the so called Landrush.

The one thing many seem to be missing in all this is that only public bodies and TRADEMARK holders could apply before the landrush.

I checked all this out when it was first announced and was advised by EUrid that no way could I pre-register a trading name unless it was trademarked.

Trademarks cost serious money in the UK, if we had been advised the same as the US domain squatters that Belgium etc had such lax trademark regulations I would have done so there.

OK, tell me my legal team are inefficient, are they supposed to know every stupid regulation in this crazy over-regulated EU world?

This entire fiasco could and should have been avoided however it's typical of EU bureaucracy not to have learnt from other TLD releases...Brussels always knows best!

I would really like to find out who the individuals were who decided that these bozos got the contract. I have absolutely no confidence in their ability to evaluate the technological competency. Though given the mess that the bozos in EURid made of things, it is doubtful if they could even run a pissup in a brewery. It reeks of the acrid stench of EU corruption (the dodgy trademarks) and incompetence (the EUrid).

Now it seems that after massive global criticism, the Commission has instructed EUrid to "look into" the problem of abusive and speculative registrations ( [europeanaffairschannel.net...] ) and potentially terminate bogus registrars and registrations. Given the mess these bozos made of the situation the first time around, I fully expect that EUrid will give itself a clean bill of health and will not admit to making a mess of things. Though I would love to see what happens when any of these morons turn up at any tradeshows - it will make the ancient Roman games look downright civilised.
