I have domain names registered at several registrars.

For one registrar, I have all the domains set up on manual renewal. About once per week, I go in and renew those close to expiring. I keep a master list on paper.

The other night I went to that registrar and navigated to my upcoming expirations as usual. I noticed some domains that my master list indicated were due soon were missing from the list on the registrar's site.

I then used the registrar's search function to search for domains in my account that included certain words and I was able to find the domains and renew them.

If I had of relied solely on the registrar's list and not had my own master list, I would have lost those domains without ever knowing it.

Those were good one and two word domains that I have owned for years. I could be cynical and think the registrar was somehow trying to pull a fast one and get some of those domains.

Or it could be just a temporary computer glitch.

Either way, print or download yourself a master list to be sure. Don't rely on your registrar's records whether you have manual or automatic renewals.
