Domain name renewal

someone got my expired DN

I had a Domain name that I wasn't using much. I let it expire on Oct 23, 2005. recently I thought of a use for this domain name and registered it with Company 1 on Dec 29 2005.(confirmation email was received, "Thank you for registering/renewing the following domains with Company 1")

I was unable to publish.

I asked Company 1 why this was and they said that my domain was "in redemption period so we could not transfer your domain name".Further, they said I "need to contact your current registrar, Company 2, and renew your domain name with them and then you need to wait 60 days after that you can continue transfer process to us".

Company 2 never responded to my emails, nor have they returned my phone calls. On January 9, a WHOIS search revealed a new owner of the domain.

How is it possible for this person (self proclaimed troll) to register this domain on Jan 9 when I paid on Dec 29?

If I don't get the domain name it is not the end of the world, but it would be nice...

This phrase from your starting thread answered it all:

I let it expire on Oct 23, 2005.

Once a domain name expires, it follows a series of "phases" before becoming available to the public for re-registration if it's not renewed by its last registered owner.

Bottom line, it's gone.
