Hello thomasaquinius and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Please take a moment to read the Domain Forum Charter [webmasterworld.com] and the WebmasterWorld TOS [webmasterworld.com] so you can better understand my following comment.

I'm not certain there's a list of "most popular domain names by country" but I'm certain there's companies that offer them - for a price. That being the case, if "one of those companiers" turns out to be the only answer to this thread won't last. We tend to view posts that call for commercial provider solutions as commercial promotions for the most part, which we don't allow.

However, IF there's such a list freely available then I'd love to read about it.

I think you can go about this 1 of 2 ways. One is to pay for domain information. Just search for subjects like "domain lists" or "domain intelligence" or "domain research", etc.

The other is to generate your own list, which would like be built upon some research about popular search terms.

I am requesting information for such a list or how to find about where such a list exists - I am not offering any services nor would I like to pay for such a list if I know where to get if for free.
That is all. Thank you for your concern.

This may not provide exactly what you're after, but it would be a start (and it's free). Go over to Alexa.com. Scroll down a bit where you'll see "Top 500 Sites" in the right column. Hit the link below that says "More Top Sites." You'll then be able to look at all kinds of info such as "Global Top 500," by topic, and by language, among other options.

I hope this helps!
