From an E-mail i sent to my hosting provider, they're not answering, so i guess i could find some help here:

"I've recently decided to purchase a domain name for one of my sub-domains: <snip> me.example.widget.com, and i hope i can do it with minimal damage of Search Engine ranking and incoming traffic, i want the risk to be as low as possible.

I recall seeing a note that you'll help with pointing the new domain to the other one, or something like that, is that still relevant?

Anyway, i also heard about the 301 Permanent redirect way, but not sure how to implement it, please note that the domain name will be bought via your service (the link on your homepage).

Is there a way that i'll be able to use both my current and the new domains that will be both present my site and then (technically) start moving gradually to the new one and deleting the old one after SE's recognize the new?

Hope that was clear, i'm not even close of understanding any of this domains stuff...thanks for your support"

Please do help,
A.H

301s are generally recognized as a method to keep SE bots apprised of file moves, in an effort to maintain SE history/ranking. No one can say with certainty how a given move will effect your website's relationship with any search engine.

As concerns the "how to" part this is best resolved directly with your website host. If you don't have the ability/access rights necessary to enter the redirect the server admins should be readily able to handle the request, perhaps for a fee.
