Base on alexa traffic history, it shouldn't be 4 years but 1+ year. Alexa traffic rank is 25,636, and metricsmarket.com estimated 271,200 visitor sessions in the last 30 days.
I agree that 100K is kind of low, for an established site like that. I wish I knew it earlier ...

How many members does blogster have? If they have more than 50K bloggers, that's an ABSOLUTE steal.

Monetizing traffic is the easy part. Getting it is harder.

The article is pretty confusing. It's unclear to me just what the transaction was that took place.

The article was announcing the PURCHASE of the domain name by two individuals who "rewrote the blogster.com software completely in November, 2005".

Wow, a complete rewrite in a month? Or less?

Who really bought what from whom? The article doesn't help a lot with answering that.

BTW, the article is just a verbatim copy of a press release that can be found on the web site.

The article was poorly written and didn't make a whole lot of sense. More information and some continuity would have been nice. They make it sound like a domain name and not a website that was already running, until they mention blogs already on there. Strange.

Yeah there is likely more there than meets the eye that article fails to mention for it to be let go for the rock bottom price of 100k.

It is likely these guys ended up with some stock in the new company or have some sort of lucrative contract that the article fails to mention.

Perhaps the confusion is over the symantics. Very few blogs probably make that much money ... but a blog SITE (that makes if possible for people to create a blog and provides a community for them to interact) is a very different story. MoveableType, Blogger.com, etc.

I've worked with Ed & Tony since 01 and they're sharp guys. Likely they got a good deal on this and have it in mind to build the community side, like what they did for the wholesale site.

When we bought the site, it was really the domain name we purchased. We bought the site on an ebay auction if you can believe that. The site had to sit on the previous owner's servers for 2 months until we had our re-write done and then we re-launched with the better code and better hosting platform. We think we have a good buy and our focus is on creating quality content, fostering community and driving revenue. The current Google adsense feed does peanuts for earnings. We don't have a Premium Google feed yet, so we are only showing the people on adsense that select "content network" and we know from experience that going across the content network can be a bit dicey at times, so I would guess that the higher paying adwords advertisers stay off the adsense content network for the most part. I could be wrong, this is just my opinion.

The sensible ones do, at least.

Many of us are fed up with "search network" as well. When I pay for "search" I want "search". Not parked domains. Unfortunately, along with AOL search, Ask Jeeves, etc. you get certain parked domains.

I want people who are looking for what I'm selling. Not people who stumbled on some content-free website.
