Develop, Park, Sub-domain?

Got over new 100 domains... what to do?

So our company has been on a bit of a domain name land-grab and now has over 100 shiny, new domains.

What to do with 'em?

We're looking to ideas how to best (cheaply!) monetize them. Should we create one-page sites and sub-domain them off of one our larger properties? Should we park them with a service? Easy way to make 100 mini-sites? Resale options?

Anybody have experience with making some money off of this quantity?

Suggestions more than appreciated!

Colo + well optimized (with useful, on domain topic content) minisites + a well thought out taxonomy for future development (so you don't have to start renaming files or 301-ing needlessly)

1 vote amongst many I'm sure.

Just signup for Google Adsense Domain Park program and keep some PPC ads so that you can monetize them.

So, how does one (cheaply) set up hosting for 100 mini-sites? All domains point to one hosting acc't with redirects? Sub-domain off of a larger site? Other methods?

How do you let potential buyers know the domain and (potential) traffic is for sale?

Is this a sound short/long-term strategy?

Thanks!

I'm with Webwork. Creating targeted, smart, mini-sites will usually pay off much more than just parking the names. With a little work, the names will start earning enough to pay for registration/renewals. With a little time, they can start turning a nice profit. Then start developing each one as you have the resources and you may be able to get them to turn a big profit or possibly sell them for a lot of money. And you can sell off the extra names over time as well. It's certainly not get-rich-quick, but it can definately be get-rich if done right.

I'm with webwork. The parking services are biting off a share of the AdSense earnings and afaik, it's only the type in traffic they're monetizing. So unless you've been on a spree acquiring some really generic or specific one or two word domain names (with significant type-ins) the traffic may not generate sufficient income. And once the parker sites take their cut you may only have enough to pay for hosting and one-way ride on the local bus back to the drawing board.

The quest for lucre. Filthy filthy lucre...
If you build the mini-sites up with content then you'll be able to capitalize on the type-ins plus the organic traffic and keep all the bucks to yourself.

HOWEVER... If the minisites aren't converting then the AdSense earnings per click may drop due to the smart pricing algorithm. Now here is the part that bugs me the most: One site within your network that is considered poor quality by the AdSense program can drag down the EPC of your entire network. Or so they say.

BUT... I haven't noticed anything like that affecting my network so either my sites are decent enough or else the EPC drop may not be happening anymore.

NEVERTHELESS... one option (since you asked) is to consider knocking on YPN doors to let your network of sites into their beta. Especially if you are the paranoid type and are afraid of the possibility of a quality issue dragging down your existing sites earnings. Those YPN business cards from the trade shows come in handy...

Ok, I'm game. Oh, and I'm part of YPN Beta :-)

So, how to best get these sites out there - that won't break the bank. Writers I have. Developers / Designers I have. My questions are:

- Hosting: How would you suggest hosting over 100 domains? One host acct or many? One host svc or? Think simplicity.

- Linking: Simplest, low-stress way to generate just a tad of traffic. Interlink? Sub-domain? A few non-network IBLs?

Thanks guys/gals!

Won't KoB get slammed by the search engines if he puts them all on the same ip address and tries to interlink them.

How to get into YPN Beta?

Well... any suggestions here?

- How would you suggest hosting over 100 domains?

- Simplest, low-stress linking to generate just a tad of traffic?

KoB, a way to host 100 domains is a semi-dedicated server. Look for the ones that allow 100 domains/sites to be hosted. Those can be found for under $100/month (I had one for $70, but I was a long-time customer). This is certailny not cheapest, but probably the most effective.
