Domain deletion process

What's the step-by-step these days?

I've browsed through the last couple months of archives and only found this thread [webmasterworld.com], which has good info. but only partially answers my question, which is:

What is the current step-by-step process for expired domains being deleted? Does it depend on the registrar?

I'm watching a domain that had an expiration date of Oct. 24. It went to Registrar-Hold and just yesterday changed to Redemption Period.

What's next?

The deletion cycle is all over the place lately and is further mired by the actions of registrars who no longer release domains but, instead, put them up for auction internally or allow them to be subject to in house drop catch programs.

Generally: Redemption Period = 30 days; Pending Delete = 5 days; Pending Delete, Scheduled for Release = 2/3 days.

The first question I have is "what registrar" is involved?

Second, what tld?

Third, is it one of mine that I forgot to renew? :)

I might suggest you read the Terms of Service of the registrar for any clarification regarding how they handle the process.

I don't believe so. :)

Thanks for the idea. I did now, and it does seem a bit murky. Sounds like they could delete it any day now -- any time from the 35- to 45-day mark. Or keep it themselves..... sheesh.

Worse or better, Register.com now delivers their deleting stock directly into the hands of SnapNames, so place your snap and prepare to bid.
