Well, this may sound like a little BS, looks stupid but is more or less what I've readed.
What do you guys think about it?
Some hold the opinion that a domain with a longer registration period looks less like a throw-away domain. Could be a factor if the website assoicated with the domain exhibits other spammy or blackhat features.
OTOH - If I was running a domain registry I, too, might think that it's in your interest to register a domain for a longer period of time.
Here is the link?

This is the actual section:
[0099] Certain signals may be used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. For example, domains can be renewed up to a period of 10 years. Valuable (legitimate) domains are often paid for several years in advance, while doorway (illegitimate) domains rarely are used for more than a year. Therefore, the date when a domain expires in the future can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain and, thus, the documents associated therewith.
Keep in mind Google uses many criteria in determining page rank. Registering a domain for more than 1 year would only help if you were doing everything else correctly. Example: not spamming, adding content on a regular basis, traffic, etc.
