Rough value of a 3 letter .co.uk domain (a word)?

I have an anonymous party interested in a 3 letter .co.uk domain that I own and was wondering if anyone could offer a realistic estimate on what I should ask for it. I've had some interest in it in the past but its only now that I'm really considering selling it.

For info - the domain is a word, could be built up as a "brand", doesn't get much in the way of type in traffic.

Any advice would be appreciated

Not a lot of .co.uk sales reported at DNJournal.

Did you check Afternic or Sedo for reported sales?

3 letters that also forms a word likely has a bit more value than just any old 3 letters.

No traffic is a negative.

Any issues with anyone claiming rights to the 3 letters as a local brand? If not, that's another plus. (Not that such a claim would matter that much since it's also a work.)

I'm shooting in the dark here but you might be in the $1,500 to $7,500+ range, depending on the robustness of "the word" and the utility/applicability of the 3 letters (zqx vs. abc) . . . and subject to currency exchange rate fluctuations. :) So, shooting in the dark, I'd say start at the upper range for negotiation.

Now, someone show me that I'm clueless about .co.uk values. :-P

How much will it run to ;)

Do you have any idea who the real buyer is?

If someone has used a company such as (insert name of UK domain specialists that have a nominet arbitration guy on their board) to approach you then they are prepared to spend £75 to find out if you are interested in selling and then another £750 for the successful acquisition of the name.

If it is that agency then I'd say the person values the name higly enough to think that £825 is worth paying for just the negotiation. This puts the domain squarely in the £5K+ range.

If it's a different third party then try to find out what they charge for such a service. It could even be solicitors, they don't come cheaply.

I suppose the most important part is being happy with the price you get and not dwelling on whether you could have got more.

£10K is where I would start unless you are feeling lucky.

Hi Webwork & Inbound,

Many thanks for your advice. The bid was placed through sedo.co.uk - so I don't know who the potential buyer is.

Does anyone know of any 3 letter .co.uk domains that have sold recently and if so how much they went for?

Thanks

Best place to check prices is domainprices.co.uk - they get sales reports from all the major outlets and some private reports too. Kind of a mini DNJournal but just for the .co.uk market.

Just like in .com, there are absolutely no unregistered .co.uk domains left, even in hideous character combinations like qxw.co.uk. Prices are steadily rising.

We generally sell our 3 char .co.uk's for between £1,750 and £2,750 and a good deal more for particularly good sets of initials such as avs.co.uk, doo.co.uk and lsd.co.uk where we have landed sales in the £5 - £7.5k range.

Everyone on Sedo seems to receive numerous silly low ball offers, apparently none more so than .co.uk holders for some reason. The counter to that it is to return equally highball replies and hopefully meet somewhere mutually acceptable in the middle.

Will someone please summarize the process by which DomainPrices.co.uk collects and verifies there sales data?

I'm looking for confirmation of their reliability so I'm comfortable with any future mention of their data. No looking for endorsements, just whatever is publicly known or stated about how they colllect and confirm their sales reports.

Thanks.

At the top of the acorndomains.co.uk/portal.php page they ask for folk to let them know of any sale. Don't know what they do to verify data.

They get info sent to them directly by Sedo. Not sure about the other data. They also cross-reference with DNJournal on occasion.
