Contact details for expired domains

Is there a way to find out contact details for the previous owner of an expired domain? If I look in WHOIS for an expiring or expired domain then the contact details are suppressed or changed.

Are there archives of this information kept anywhere?

You could try looking at the Internet Archive for an old copy of the web site and see if the contact info is on the site.

Some registrars retain the expired domain's contact info, some don't. Using the Internet Archive is
one way as jonathanleger suggested, although you're limited to see any website it could've caught.

Another is using a paid service.
